Lottery Singapore

In Singapore, there are two lottery games that are open to everyone. One is Toto and the other is 4D.

The odds of winning any prize are a small 1 in 53.6 and a jackpot of S$1 million is only one in 13,983,806. It is advisable to understand the probability of winning before you play. Buying a ticket gives you the excitement of waiting for the live draw. You can also set reminders on your phone or tablet.

Lottery tickets can be bought online. Players can choose the numbers and purchase their tickets on their computer, smartphone or tablet. Aside from online, lottery tickets can be played at certified payout locations.

The Singapore lottery is held twice a week. Every Monday and Thursday at 6:30 PM, a number is drawn. The winning numbers are then published on the internet and in the regional newspapers.

This lottery is operated by the government. The draw is overseen by an independent external auditor. Anyone who places a bet with an unlicensed or illegal operator can be fined up to SGD10,000 or be locked up in prison.

There are three people who have already appeared in court for violating the Gambling Act. They face up to ten years in prison.

The Tote Board is the statutory body that governs the Singapore Turf Club and Singapore Pools, the company that operates the lottery. The Tote Board also oversees the Singapore Sweep and Toto.

In the past decade, the amount spent on lotteries has increased. According to the National Council on Problem Gambling, 44% of Singaporeans gambled on gambling activities.
